Boston University Terriers Shine in Hockey East All-Star Selections

The Men’s Ice Hockey team of Boston University once again achieves recognition with the announcement of four of its members as Hockey East All-Stars for the second consecutive year. Among them, Freshman Macklin Celebrini and sophomore Lane Hutson secured spots in the First Team All-Stars, while freshman Tom Willander was chosen as a Second Team All-Star and junior Mathieu Caron as a Third Team All-Star. This achievement brings the total number of Terriers named to Hockey East All-Star teams to an impressive 94.

Celebrini, also the recipient of the league’s scoring championship and Three Stars Award, emerges as the only unanimous First Team All-Star. At just 18 years old, he has made a significant impact in the college hockey scene, ending the regular season as the nation’s leader with an outstanding 1.69 points per game. Notably, Celebrini’s 23 goals in Hockey East play set a league record, and he became the only rookie in Hockey East history to average at least one goal per game in league competition.

Hutson’s remarkable performance on the ice has seen him become the fourth Terrier defenseman to be named a Hockey East First Team All-Star in two consecutive years. Additionally, he is the first league defenseman to receive first-team accolades as both a freshman and a sophomore. Hutson’s leadership as a defenseman has been instrumental, as he leads all NCAA defensemen in points per game and is ranked among the nation’s top blue liners with 12 goals.

Willander’s exceptional first season in college saw him leading all Hockey East defenders in plus-minus ratings, solidifying his position as the best freshman defenseman in the league. His exceptional performance in the latter part of the season has been a crucial factor for BU.

Transferring from Brown, Caron proved to be a formidable presence in his first league campaign, playing the most minutes of any league goaltender and garnering impressive statistics across his 34 starts. His strong finish to the season bodes well for the Terriers as they embark on their Hockey East title defense.

Excitement is building as BU prepares to kick off its Hockey East title defense on Saturday, with the second-seeded Terriers set to host seventh-seeded Northeastern at Agganis Arena. The game is scheduled to start at 4:15 p.m., and fans are eager to see the team’s standout All-Stars in action as they strive for victory.
