Stony Brook University’s tennis team encountered a challenging match against Delaware at the DFH Outdoor Courts, resulting in a 7-0 defeat on Friday afternoon.
Commencing with the doubles matches, Coetzee and Vasilenko from Delaware secured a victory against Stony Brook’s Palladino and Lobo-Corral with a score of 7-5. Honrubia and Hrynashka of Delaware also achieved a win against Perfiliev and Bruu-Syversen from Stony Brook with the same score, initiating a challenging start for the team. Jurkowska and Svendsen of Delaware concluded the doubles segment with a 6-1 win over Medved and Villalba-Rubio from Stony Brook.
In the subsequent singles matches, Coetzee from Delaware defeated Palladino from Stony Brook with a score of 6-3, 7-5. Vasilenko from Delaware also emerged victorious against Lobo-Corral from Stony Brook with a score of 6-2, 2-6, 10-8. Hrynashka from Delaware secured a win against Perfiliev from Stony Brook with a score of 6-3, 6-1. Honrubia from Delaware also defeated Bruu-Syversen from Stony Brook with a score of 6-1, 6-3. Jurkowska from Delaware emerged victorious against Medved from Stony Brook with a score of 7-5, 6-0, while Vadlamudi from Delaware won via an opponent retirement against Villalba-Rubio from Stony Brook with a score of 6-3.
Head coach Thiago Dualiby remarked, “We competed effectively today and had our opportunities against a resilient Delaware team. It marked our strongest doubles performance this year, and we aim to build on that in preparation for the conference tournament.”
Despite the setback, the team remains resolute as they look ahead to their upcoming match against the Sharks at LIU on Sunday, March 24 at 3 p.m.
