Announcing the 2023-24 Basketball Superstars of the Year

The much-anticipated and star-studded 2023-24 boys basketball All-Metro teams have been revealed, showcasing an array of highly talented players from the high school hoops scene. From formidable forwards to sharpshooting guards, these athletes are poised to make a significant impact on the court and beyond.

At the forefront is Metro Player of the Year, Jackson McAndrew of Wayzata. The 6’9 forward and senior, committed to Creighton, has garnered attention for his exceptional three-point shooting, earning him a reputation as one of the top shooters in the country. Creighton’s coach, Greg McDermott, has praised McAndrew’s skills in stretching the floor, making him an ideal fit for their offensive strategy.

Joining McAndrew on the first team is Park Center’s 6’3 guard, Casimir Chavis, who has committed to Washington. Chavis has consistently delivered outstanding performances, averaging 23.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game, earning praise from Washington’s coach, Mike Hopkins, for his talent and hard work.

Breck’s 6’2 guard, Daniel Freitag, has made headlines with impressive statistics of 25.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and 2.5 steals. Despite being ranked 103rd in the country by 247Sports, Freitag’s skills have been commendably acknowledged by Wisconsin’s coach Greg Gard, who admires his athletic prowess.

Isaiah Johnson-Arigu, a 6’7 forward from Totino-Grace, has shone with his averages of 20.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. This powerhouse player has secured a spot with Miami (Florida) with his rare combination of size, skill, and athleticism, as recognized by Eagles coach Nick Carroll.

Additionally, Lakeville North’s 6’6 forward, Jack Robison, has impressed with his scoring abilities, boasting an average of 21.9 points while shooting 53 percent overall. Robison’s versatility and basketball IQ earned him a spot with the Wisconsin Badgers, where his skills are expected to shine.

The second team includes standout talents such as Orono’s Nolan Groves, Minneapolis Washburn’s Kyle Jorgensen, Hopkins’ Jayden Moore, Chisago Lakes’ Patrick Rowe, and Minnetonka’s Andy Stefonowicz. These athletes are on the rise and poised to make an impact on the court.
