The U13-Black team of Huntsville Sting has recently been recognized as the champions of the 2024 Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup. This minor league hockey team, comprised entirely of female players from Huntsville, Ontario, accomplished this remarkable feat through their collective effort with the local community. Together, they completed a commendable total of 1,358 good deeds, which included volunteering at a local hospital, participating in area clean-up efforts, and donating clothing to those in need.
A noteworthy aspect of their victory is their decision to allocate the $100,000 prize provided by Chevrolet Canada to Food4Kids Muskoka, a charity that focuses on providing packages of nutritious food to children aged 4-13 who have limited or no access to food over the weekends. This initiative showcases their dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of others and reflects their strong sense of community spirit.
James Hodge, the brand director of Chevrolet Canada, expressed his admiration for the team’s efforts, stating that Chevrolet takes great pride in acknowledging the heartwarming acts of kindness performed by younger generations, which have a meaningful and positive effect on their local communities. He also commended the various impactful good deeds that were carried out by teams across different regions, emphasising the significant contribution made by the Huntsville Sting U13-Black team, as well as all the other participating teams throughout Canada. Their combined efforts resulted in the completion of over 2,000 good deeds this year, with a total donation of £950,000 over the course of eight seasons.
Sarah Roberts, the Team Manager of the Huntsville Sting U13-Black, expressed her immense pride in the team’s achievement, describing it as a special privilege to witness the girls coming together to contribute towards a worthy cause. She also conveyed the team’s passion for supporting the local community, particularly through their chosen charity, Food4Kids Muskoka. Roberts affirmed that this victory is just the beginning of their ongoing commitment to performing good deeds, and she eagerly anticipates their future endeavors.
In recognition of their outstanding achievement, the Huntsville Sting U13-Black team was featured on Hockey Night in Canada during the March 16 broadcast, followed by a celebratory event hosted by Chevrolet Canada. Additionally, they will have the honour of being added to the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup trophy, alongside previous winners such as the U13A Cornwall Typhoons, Lloydminster Female U13 Blazers, U13-C Victoria Admirals, Torbay Northeast Eagles Peewee C All-Stars, Pas Huskies Peewee team, and Glace Bay Miners.
