In a momentous development for Winnington Park, the search for a new director of rugby has commenced as the current director, Dave Allcock, is set to step down at the conclusion of the current season after a successful nine-year tenure. The club is in pursuit of a replacement who will assume the role for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
At present, Winnington Park is facing a crucial phase in their season, with only two games left, both of which will be played at home. They find themselves in a challenging position in Regional Two North West, holding a two-point lead over Kirkby Lonsdale, the team currently placed in the final relegation spot.
Their recent encounter with Whitchurch saw them suffer a defeat with a scoreline of 33-5, marking their third consecutive loss. Despite a scoreless first half, Park managed to score the game’s first try early in the second half. However, their opponents surged back to claim a convincing victory.
Although Park displayed promising moments with consistent possession in the Whitchurch 22 during the first half, they were unable to convert those opportunities into points. Despite their resilience, errors and an interception try led to a series of successful scores for Whitchurch.
Looking ahead, Winnington Park is gearing up to host Douglas, a team from the Isle of Man, in their penultimate game of the season at Burrows Hill.
