On a momentous Saturday, 16th March, the men’s ice hockey team of Trinity College achieved a resounding victory over Elmira College at the Koeppel Ice Rink. The game showcased the team’s exceptional talent and strategic acumen as they executed precise shots, accurate passes, and a resilient defense, particularly during a fast-paced third period. With two impressive goals, the team emerged victorious and created an electric atmosphere within the packed arena, pulsating with the energy of the fans from both colleges.
The clash between the two teams was intense from the start, with both sides fiercely vying for a win. In a thrilling turn of events, the Bantams managed to secure a power play within the first period, resulting in forward #18 Alex Mozian ’25 expertly scoring a goal with an assist from forward #23 James Barbour ’27. The team further solidified their lead with a swift shot from forward #22 Gerard Marretta ’24, supported by assists from forward #17 Connor Sedlak ’27 and forward #13 Devan Tongue ’24. The first period culminated in a power play for Elmira which spilled over briefly into the second period. Trinity’s formidable goalkeeper #39 Devon Bobak ’26, however, remained impenetrable, thwarting Elmira’s attempts to score and earning accolades from fans and teammates.
As the second period unfolded, neither team managed to secure a goal, although the Eagles came perilously close, only to be denied by the referees, maintaining the score at a formidable two to nil. In the final period, Elmira intensified their efforts, attempting to maintain control in the Bantams’ zone. With just three minutes left in the game, Elmira decided to pull their goalie, adding an extra player to the ice in a last-ditch effort to exert pressure on the Bantams. Despite this aggressive move, Trinity’s impregnable defense, led by the remarkable performance of Bobak, fended off all attempts, claiming an impressive seventh shutout of the season and securing their well-deserved victory.
This resounding success propels the Bantams to the NCAA Championship Finals for the first time since the 2016-17 season, marking a remarkable achievement for the team.
