The McPherson College women’s tennis team delivered an outstanding performance, securing a 6-1 victory against the Bethany College Swedes in their KCAC opener, held in Lindsborg, Kan on March 18th.
The Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead by clinching the doubles point, with Maxey/Garcia and Sanchez/Nashiku delivering stellar performances with 6-2 and 6-3 wins, respectively. Grace Maxey continued the winning streak, swiftly defeating Kyla Metro with a score of 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3-singles match. Camila Sanchez added to the team’s success with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win over Ana Sofia Castillo Paz, putting McPherson College in a commanding 3-0 lead.
Freshman player Zeynep Barut sealed the victory for the Bulldogs with an outstanding display, not dropping a single game as she triumphed over Maria Mistereck with a score of 6-0, 6-0. Despite Vanessa Hofer facing a tough three-set battle, the Bulldogs responded with two consecutive wins in the fifth and sixth spots. Alexa Garcia outplayed Makenna Russom with a score of 6-2, 6-0, followed by Maddie Dobson who secured the final win with an impressive 6-4, 4-6, 10-3 victory over Tia Gregory.
Looking ahead, the Bulldogs are set to face Kansas Wesleyan at the Bulldog Tennis Center on Wednesday, March 20th, with the aim of maintaining their winning momentum.
