Arthur Cazaux provides health update after collapsing during Miami Open match

French tennis player Arthur Cazaux has taken to social media to provide an update on his health following his collapse during a Miami Open qualifying match. The 21-year-old revealed that he has been discharged from the hospital after undergoing a series of tests and receiving care.

Cazaux’s collapse occurred during the third set of his match against Harold Mayot, prompting the world No 74 to retire from the match. Despite leading 2-1 in the third set, Cazaux suddenly fell to the ground while awaiting Mayot’s serve, leaving the Miami Open crowd in a state of panic. The medical team quickly came to his aid, and he was eventually wheeled off the court and taken to the hospital for treatment.

In a post on Instagram, Cazaux expressed his gratitude for the support he has received and reassured his fans about his current condition. He stated, “Today my physical condition is better, my tension and my heart have remained stable.”

The incident has sparked discussions about the extreme temperatures in Florida, with the temperature reaching 31 degrees Celsius and 68 per cent humidity on the day of Cazaux’s collapse. However, there is relief in sight for players in the main draw, as temperatures are expected to cool before Wednesday.

In response to those who criticized him for not immediately noticing Cazaux’s collapse, Mayot clarified the situation in a statement on Instagram. He explained, “The match was dense and by the time Arthur falls I am focused on the next point and didn’t see him falling. I went to his side the moment I realised that he was not suffering from simple cramps.” Mayot also emphasized his friendship with Cazaux, expressing his desire for his opponent’s swift recovery.

The outpouring of support for Cazaux from both fans and fellow players has been heartening, and his update has provided some relief for those concerned about his well-being.

As Cazaux continues his recovery, the tennis community eagerly awaits his return to the court and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.
