New Seven-Year Contract Extensions for Wigan Warriors Coaches

The Wigan Warriors head coach, Matt Peet, as well as former players turned assistant coaches Sean O’Loughlin and Tommy Leuluai, have formalized extended seven-year contracts with the club, ensuring their leadership of the team until at least 2030.

Since assuming the role in 2022, Peet has overseen the Warriors’ triumph in every major rugby league competition, including the Betfred Challenge Cup, Betfred Super League Grand Final, League Leaders’ Shield, and the World Club Champions title. The team’s exceptional success under his stewardship is undeniable.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports News, Peet conveyed his enthusiasm in reaching a long-term agreement with the club. He noted that discussions with Warriors chief executive Kris Radlinski and new owner Mike Danson had been ongoing for several weeks, and he is delighted to have formalized the arrangement. Peet also underscored the pride and responsibility that accompanies his position as head coach, expressing his deep affection for the role.

Former Wigan players O’Loughlin and Leuluai have seamlessly transitioned into coaching roles following illustrious playing careers with the club. O’Loughlin, who captained both Wigan and the England national team, conveyed his privilege and honour in receiving a seven-year contract extension. He expressed his eagerness to continue learning and evolving as a coach under Peet’s tutelage.

Leuluai, who represented Wigan in two spells and earned 40 caps for New Zealand, expressed his surprise at being offered such a lengthy contract. Despite his relative inexperience as a coach, he believes Wigan is the ideal environment for him to progress in his new role.

Peet, O’Loughlin, and Leuluai are united in their pursuit of continual improvement. Peet acknowledged his status as a relatively inexperienced coach and his strong ambition to grow and learn. He also highlighted the club’s desire to have a broader impact in the community, alongside their on-field triumphs.

With these long-term contract extensions secured, the Wigan Warriors coaching staff are eagerly anticipating the future with a sense of stability and dedication.
