Hollywood heartthrob Keanu Reeves and esteemed producer Fisher Stevens have announced their collaboration to co-produce an upcoming documentary that will shed light on the captivating life and legacy of kickboxing superstar Benny “The Jet” Urquidez.
Titled “The Jet”, the documentary is currently in development under the skilled leadership of filmmaker Jennifer Tiexiera, a seasoned professional with an impressive track record in sports documentaries, including an Emmy nomination. Produced by the newly established Unapologetic Projects, headed by Chris Quintos Cathcart and Tyler Boehm, along with Steven’s Highly Flammable production banner, the film is scheduled for release in 2025.
Known for his explosive spinning back kick, Urquidez not only dominated the martial arts scene with his unparalleled skills but also left a lasting impact on Hollywood, training and working with a diverse range of A-list stars such as Jackie Chan, Muhammed Ali, and Nicole Kidman.
Tiexiera emphasized Urquidez’s journey from adversity to triumph, stating, “Benny’s fighting career stemmed from his struggles with identity, poverty, and race, but he refused to let those challenges define him. The result is a story of how struggle and sacrifice transformed into a tale of love, spirituality, and deeper significance.”
Expressing his enthusiasm for the project, Reeves said, “Benny is a genuine mentor and has had such a profound yet underappreciated influence on both cinema and martial arts. I’m incredibly thrilled to help share his story with the world.”
