The Rugby Autism Network, a voluntary group dedicated to providing support to individuals with autism and their families, has been honoured with the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service. This recognition, equivalent to an MBE, was presented to the charity by Lord Lieutenant Tim Cox of Warwickshire in acknowledgment of their outstanding contribution to the community.
The network has been praised for its unwavering commitment to assisting parents and carers of young autistic individuals in the Rugby area. Through their efforts, families have been able to participate in autism-friendly events, access tailored days out, educational materials, workshops, and receive essential social support. The impact of their work has been truly remarkable, making it possible for families to enjoy quality time together in a supportive and understanding environment.
Fay McSorley, the Chairperson of the Rugby Autism Network, expressed her delight at being honoured with the prestigious award. She attributed the success of the network to the dedication and expertise of their volunteers, past and present, who have played a pivotal role in providing invaluable support to their members. Looking ahead, McSorley is determined to expand the network’s reach and continue their mission of supporting local families. The award serves as a motivating force for the network to persist in their efforts and further develop the services they offer, which were non-existent when McSorley’s own children were young.
In attendance at the award presentation, Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire Tim Cox conveyed his pleasure and privilege in participating in such special events that recognise the exceptional contributions of individuals and organisations within the community. He emphasised the remarkable spirit and sense of community within Warwickshire, highlighting the positive impact that can be achieved through collective efforts and dedication.
Coun Heather Timms, the spokeswoman for environment, climate, and culture at Warwickshire County Council, commended the significance of acknowledging and celebrating the remarkable achievements of residents and organisations within Warwickshire. The award presentations are emblematic of the vibrant and inclusive community, fostering a sense of pride in the county and promoting its continuous growth and improvement.
