The Cagliari Tennis Club is gearing up for an extraordinary week of tennis. From 29th April to 5th May, the club will host the first of two Super Challengers taking place in Italy. There is considerable anticipation and excitement surrounding the upcoming event, with hopes for an exceptional display of talent. In addition to the thrilling matches, the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation has organized numerous events for young fans, promising an unforgettable experience.
It is widely acknowledged that minor tournaments play a pivotal role in nurturing future tennis champions. The “Sardinia Open” boasts a prize money of 205,000 euros and has been conferred with the esteemed designation of “Super Challenger”. Angelo Binaghi, the President of FITP, has underscored the tournament’s significance as a platform for cultivating Italian tennis stars. The tournament has proven to be a springboard for young tennis players, propelling them to success on the ATP circuit after competing on the red clay of Cagliari.
Established in 1964, the Club has a storied history, having hosted six Davis Cup matches for Italy and the 2013 Fed Cup final. The Italian Davis Cup national team has also contested five memorable matches at the Cagliari Tennis Club, with historic victories etching the club and Italian tennis into the annals of the global stage.
The success of the Cagliari Tennis Club was further exemplified in 2021 with Lorenzo Sonego’s triumph in the ATP 250 tournament in singles, as well as the Sonego/Vavassori duo clinching victory in doubles. The tournament will feature a range of activities for young tennis enthusiasts, including free participation for all local schools and Young Villages with esteemed instructors from the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation.
Michelangelo Dell’Edera, director of the “Roberto Lombardi” Higher Training Institute, has emphasized the objective of inspiring young individuals in the area, with the dual aim of fostering their passion for the sport and actively involving them in local tennis schools to nurture the aspiration of becoming tennis stars.
The objective is evident: to provide a week of sports, enjoyment, and unforgettable moments for all involved, from young fans to professionals. As the tournament draws near, excitement continues to build, and the world of tennis eagerly awaits the excitement that Cagliari is poised to deliver.
