The Indian men’s hockey team has departed for Australia in preparation for a five-match Test series commencing on April 6, leading up to the Paris Olympics scheduled for July-August. Under the guidance of Harmanpreet Singh, the team began their journey on Monday evening.
Demonstrating commendable form, the team recently secured victory in three out of four matches during the FIH Pro League held in Bhubaneswar. The upcoming series, taking place on April 6, 7, 10, 12, and 13, holds significant importance for the team’s preparations for the Paris Olympics.
Hockey India has emphasized the critical nature of this series as an opportunity for the Indian team to make necessary improvements, assess their strengths, and identify areas for advancement in readiness for the Paris Olympics. Captain Harmanpreet Singh expressed his determination and eagerness prior to the departure, stating, “As we embark on this crucial tour to Australia, we are filled with determination and excitement. The series presents an excellent opportunity for us to assess our strengths and areas for improvement ahead of the Paris Olympics.”
Vice-captain Hardik Singh has also underscored the significance of the tour, emphasizing the team’s relentless dedication to honing their skills, formulating effective strategies, and ultimately delivering a strong performance to bring pride to their country.
The roster for the Indian team comprises a formidable lineup of players in various positions, including goalkeepers Krishan Bahadur Pathak, PR Sreejesh, and Suraj Karkera, defenders Harmanpreet Singh (C), Jarmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Jugraj Singh, Sanjay, Sumit, and Amir Ali, midfielders Manpreet Singh, Hardik Singh (VC), Vivek Sagar Prasad, Shamsher Singh, Nilakanta Sharma, Rajkumar Pal, and Vishnukant Singh, and forwards Akashdeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Abhishek, Dilpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Gurjant Singh, Mohammed Raheel Mouseen, Boby Singh Dhami, and Araijeet Singh Hundal.
