Francis Epe Smashes Course Record at Inaugural Acropolis Golf Tournament

Francis Epe, Nigeria’s premier golfer, delivered an exceptional performance at the Acropolis Gardens and Residence Golf Course inauguration in Okija, Anambra State. Epe achieved a groundbreaking record by completing the tournament with an impressive twelve under par, 60, surpassing the previous course record. The event attracted a total of 86 golfers, consisting of both professional and amateur players from various regions of the country.

In an interview, Epe expressed his satisfaction with the course layout, affirming that it catered to his strengths. He attributed his triumph to his adeptness at avoiding sand traps and water hazards, as well as making two successful chip-ins during the round. Epe concluded the tournament with 12 birdies and six pars, exhibiting a flawless performance without any bogeys.

The event’s promoter, Ernest Azudialu-Obiejesi, articulated that the primary objective was to elevate the profile of Okija and alter prevailing perceptions about the town. Epe’s unprecedented performance secured him the top position, with Gift Willy from the Python Golf Club securing the runner-up spot and Chukwudi Okoro from the Benin Golf Club claiming the third position in the professional category.

Azudialu-Obiejesi expressed contentment with the turnout of participants at the inaugural event, highlighting the diverse backgrounds of the competitors who travelled to partake in the competition. Additionally, the venue offers a world-class 155-room accommodation at the Acropolis Gardens and Residence Golf Course, underscoring its preparedness to host future events.

In the women’s category, Nkechi Nwaokolo claimed victory with a net score of 76, surpassing Rita Izojie by two strokes, while Nkechi Musa-Tolani secured the third position with a net score of 79 in the 18-hole competition.
