The Dunmow Taekwondo Club has recently achieved notable success at the TAGB English Championships held at the University of Worcester Arena. A total of 16 students from the club participated in the competition and achieved commendable results, including three English champions.
A particularly noteworthy performer was 14-year-old Ruby Pegrum, a dedicated member of the club. Competing 3-4 times a year, Ruby had previously earned several medals but had not yet secured the top prize in sparring. Her persistence paid off, as she claimed the gold medal in a closely contested final to become the girls’ red belt English champion.
In addition, Lindsey Warden-Bowler, aged 32, secured her first sparring gold in the ladies’ green belt division, while nine-year-old Alyse Dixon-Bellot successfully defended her title for the third consecutive year in the girls’ pee wee red belt sparring category. The club’s success extended to participants such as Arnel Mesina, 53, and his 13-year-old son George, who both achieved commendable results in their respective divisions.
The achievements of the Maguire family, as well as the success of the team sparring events, further exemplify the club’s overall triumph in the competition. Even those who did not secure medals are deserving of acknowledgment for their valiant efforts.
Instructor Matt Howard expressed his delight at Ruby’s achievement, emphasizing her dedication and perseverance in honing her skills. Additionally, he conveyed confidence in her potential to become a formidable competitor in the future, especially as she approaches her black belt grading.
Dunmow TKD offers six classes per week, providing ample opportunities for individuals interested in exploring the art of Taekwondo to participate. The recent success of the club underscores the hard work and commitment of both the students and the instructors. As they continue to pursue excellence, Dunmow TKD has established itself as a noteworthy presence in the world of Taekwondo.
