Tough Loss for Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team against Wingate Bulldogs

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team found themselves on the losing end of a 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Wingate Bulldogs in their most recent away match of the regular season. The Bears displayed early promise with the No. 2 doubles pairing of Nellie Wahlberg and Alicia Wahlberg securing a 6-4 victory, extending their winning streak to five matches. Regrettably, the Bulldogs seized the first point of the match by clinching the next two doubles lines with scores of 6-3 and 6-4.

Transitioning to singles play, Wingate continued their dominance by claiming victory in the first three matches in straight sets. Nonetheless, Nellie Wahlberg exhibited commendable resilience by securing the Bears’ solitary point of the match with a hard-fought victory at the No. 4 line, emerging triumphant in her pro-set style match with a score of 8-5. Conversely, Alicia Wahlberg, who suffered her first singles defeat of the season, was unable to maintain her momentum after clinching the first set and ultimately succumbed in the third-set tiebreaker, with a score of 11-9.

Looking ahead, the Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team is scheduled to conclude their season with a home contest against Lincoln Memorial at the YMCA of Catawba Valley on Saturday, 13th April at 1 p.m.
