The tennis community in Stourbridge is abuzz with excitement as Mr. Tony Wright, the esteemed head coach at Kidderminster Tennis Club, has been honoured with the Development Coach of the Year 2024 award in the Herefordshire & Worcestershire segment of the County Lawn Tennis Association’s LTA Tennis Awards. Mr. Wright, along with his wife Mrs. Lisa, who serves as the assistant coach, has dedicated the past thirteen years to nurturing and training junior and adult players, offering a diverse range of tennis sessions throughout the week and on Saturday mornings.
Selected from a pool of 68 other LTA coaches, Mr. Wright expressed his joy and honour at winning this prestigious award and being recognised by the LTA for his coaching excellence. His unwavering commitment to providing quality sessions and making a positive impact on players of all ages in the community has truly set him apart.
In addition to group sessions, Mr. Wright also provides individual lessons and has successfully coached several junior players to victory in LTA Ratings Tournaments in the Midlands and beyond. The success of his coaching is evident as many of his junior players have gone on to represent Kidderminster Tennis Club in league matches and have achieved positions in the H&W County Squad.
This is not the first time that Mr. Wright’s coaching prowess has been acknowledged. In 2012 and 2015, he was named Wyre Forest District Council’s sports coach of the year, and he was the runner-up for the LTA’s children’s tennis coach of the year in 2015. Mr. Wright’s consistent dedication and impact on the local tennis scene has not gone unnoticed, and his latest award is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the sport and its players.
