Brown University Women’s Tennis Team Fails to Secure Victory Against #72 Penn

The women’s tennis team of Brown University suffered a 0-4 defeat against the 72nd-ranked Penn team during their Ivy League matchup held on Sunday.

In the doubles match, the Bears lost the point after being defeated by Penn in the first and second doubles. The third doubles match was left unfinished, ultimately leading to Penn earning the point.

When it came to the singles matches, the Bears were unable to secure a point, with Penn collecting three singles points at the second, third, and sixth line.

Lucie Schmidhauser, the Head Coach, expressed her disappointment saying, “We came out with very little energy in doubles, losing the point pretty quickly. The trend continued through the first part of singles as well before we started competing a little better in some of the matches. As a team, our players were not able to embrace the challenge of competing and problem-solving effectively after yesterday’s tough loss against Princeton. This is something that our team needs to address as we prepare to compete in the last two matches of our season next weekend.”

The Bears will now travel to Ithaca to play against the Cornell Big Red on Saturday at 1 p.m.

In the doubles results, Wang / Rutlauka (Penn) defeated Peus / Hofflander (Brown) with a score of 6-2, while Gallo / Motlagh (Penn) defeated Benedetto / Ahlstrom (Brown) with the same score. The third doubles match was left unfinished with a score of 4-3 in favor of Penn.

As for the singles results, Velaga (Penn) vs. Peus (Brown) ended with a score of 6-4, 4-4, unfinished, Rutlauka (Penn) defeated Benedetto (Penn) with a score of 6-4, 6-2, Smith (Penn) defeated Lee (Brown) with a score of 6-0, 6-1, Wang (Penn) vs. Ben-Abraham (Brown) ended with a score of 6-4, 5-4, unfinished, Gallo (Penn) vs. Ahlstrom (Brown) ended with a score of 7-6, 4-3, unfinished, and Urata (Penn) defeated Mariotti (Brown) with a score of 6-0, 6-2.
