Washington State University Tennis Team Falls to 9th-ranked California Golden Bears

The tennis team representing Washington State University encountered a formidable loss against the highly-ranked California Golden Bears, culminating in a final score of 6-1 on the afternoon of Saturday. Senior Hannah Viller Moeller and freshman Mao Mushika, the 22nd-ranked doubles pair in the nation from Cal, secured a 6-1 victory over WSU’s sophomore Eva Alvarez Sande and junior Elyse Tse. Furthermore, freshmen Tiziana-Marie Schomburg and sophomore Berta Passola Folch from Cal also achieved a 6-1 win over WSU’s junior Hania Abouelsaad and freshman Martina Markov, resulting in Cal securing the doubles point.

During the singles matches, Alvarez Sande of WSU managed to secure a victory by defeating the 39th-ranked Viller Moeller with a score of 6-3, 6-0, thereby earning the sole point for the Cougars in the match. Despite the challenging competition, Abouelsaad managed to push her match to a third set, and senior Fifa Kumhom made a valiant effort to stage a comeback in the third set, ultimately losing 6-4 after being down 5-0.

Presently holding a 10-10 record, the team is preparing to face their rivals, the Washington Huskies, in the season finale at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
