Fantastic Fundraising: Woodsome Hall Golf Club Makes Big Impact for Project Youth Cancer

Woodsome Hall Golf Club in Huddersfield has made a significant impact by raising an impressive £30,000 for Project Youth Cancer, a local charity that supports teenagers and young adults battling cancer. The incredible fundraising efforts were led by club captains Glenn Paxman and Julie Lee who chose Project Youth Cancer as their charity of focus for the year.

The fundraising initiatives commenced in April 2023 and continued throughout the year, with various events and activities organized by the captains to engage and involve club members and guests in their support for the charity.

Glenn Paxman’s company, Paxman, has a long-standing partnership with Project Youth Cancer, providing free scalp cooling for young cancer patients. Consequently, Glenn felt a personal connection to the charity and was eager to lend his support to their cause. His fellow captain, Julie Lee, graciously joined in the effort, and together they spearheaded the fundraising campaign.

One of the highlights of the fundraising calendar was the Captain’s Charity Golf Day, held in June 2023, where members and guests generously donated towards the cause. The momentum continued with the Woodsome Hall Captain’s Charity Day in September 2023, which featured a special visit from former professional footballer and Huddersfield Town player, Steve Kindon, who helped elevate the fundraising efforts.

The spirited event also saw former football players Dale Tempest, Alan Starling, Keith Hanvey, and Andy Booth, all lending their support to the noble cause. Additionally, a generous donation of £1,500 from York Racecourse further boosted the fundraising efforts.

The funds raised by Woodsome Hall Golf Club will significantly contribute to Project Youth Cancer’s impactful work, including age-targeted research and projects to enhance mental well-being for young cancer patients. The charity also provides crucial support to specialist hospitals and donates Christmas presents to young patients spending the holiday season in hospitals.

With cancer being the most common cause of non-accidental death in young adults in the UK, the support extended by Woodsome Hall and its members is truly commendable. Both Glenn and Julie expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support they received from sponsors, donors, and the entire golf club community, emphasizing the importance of the funds in easing the plight of young cancer patients and their families.

Helen Mervill, the head of operations at Project Youth Cancer, conveyed her heartfelt appreciation to Glenn, Julie, and everyone involved in the fundraising efforts, highlighting the immense impact of the funds raised and the increased awareness generated for the charity.

The remarkable success of Woodsome Hall Golf Club’s fundraising initiatives for Project Youth Cancer serves as a shining example of the positive impact that community-driven support can have on vital causes. Through their dedication and generosity, the club members have made a meaningful difference in the lives of young cancer patients, embodying the spirit of compassion and unity.
