The 2023-24 season concluded for the Harvard women’s golf team with an admirable fourth-place finish at the Ivy League Championship this past weekend. Enduring the rigorous golf course at the Stanwich Golf Club in Greenwich, Conn., the Crimson displayed resilience, achieving a team score of 914 (+50). Particularly noteworthy was the outstanding performance of Sophomore Bridget Ma, securing an impressive second-place finish individually with a 54-hole score of six-over-par (222).
Competing in the 2024 Ivy League Championship at the Stanwich Golf Club presented a formidable challenge for the Harvard women’s golf team. The course, featuring a slope of 77.0 and encompassing over 6,100 yards, posed a significant test for all competitors.
The tournament commenced with a team score of 311 in the initial round, placing the Crimson in last position, albeit trailing the leader by a mere ten shots. Bridget Ma exhibited exceptional prowess from the outset, delivering an even-par round of 72, positioning herself in a tie for second place after the first day. Isabella Gomez also left a strong impression with an impressive back-nine performance, concluding with a score of 77, placing her at T12 after 18 holes. Meiyi Yan and Iris Wang contributed to Harvard’s score with respective scores of 81 each.
The team rebounded on the second day, registering the lowest score of any team in the tournament with a commendable 297 (+9), propelling them to fourth place. Gomez, posting an even-par round of 72 on the second day, elevated herself to T4 in the field by the end of the second round. Ma closely followed at T8 after a six-over-par 78. Contributions to the team’s low score were also made by Charissa Shang, Wang, and Yan, with respective scores of 74, 75, and 76.
On the third day, Harvard posted a team score of 306, placing them just outside the top three in the tournament. The Crimson concluded the tournament at 50-over par in fourth place overall. Individually, Ma’s remarkable performance with another even-par round of 72 secured her a T2 placement for the entire tournament. Gomez, Yan, and Shang also made significant contributions in the final round scoring.
Notable achievements for Harvard included Ma tying for second place overall at six-over-par and Gomez finishing in a tied for seventh place at nine-over-par. Additionally, the team achieved the second-best scoring average on par-five holes at 5.08 (+5) and secured the second most pars in the field with 164.
Dartmouth College emerged as the champions with a team score of 899, followed by Yale and Pennsylvania in second and third place, respectively.
The performance of the Harvard women’s golf team at the Ivy League Championships was truly impressive, leaving a lasting impression on the green.
