The MSU-Northern basketball team has recently made a significant announcement regarding their latest recruit, 6-foot-2-inch guard Cinque Maxwell. Maxwell, who hails from University Place, WA, outside of Tacoma, brings an impressive track record from his time at Skagit Valley Community College.
During the 2023-24 season with the Cardinals, Maxwell demonstrated his prowess by averaging an impressive 10.6 points per game, with a 53.6 percent success rate from the floor and 36.1 percent from beyond the 3-point line. Prior to his college career, Maxwell made a name for himself in high school, where he achieved a milestone of scoring over 1,000 points and leading his Curtis High School basketball team to consecutive sectional championships in the state of Washington.
In addition to his athletic abilities, Maxwell is also dedicated to his academic pursuits. He is on track to complete his associate degree in business in just one year of community college and intends to continue his studies at Northern to earn his bachelor’s degree in the same field, all while maintaining three years of eligibility to compete in basketball.
Northern coach Shawn Huse expressed his enthusiasm for the newest addition to the team, stating, “I would describe him as extremely coachable and someone who knows basketball and school and everyday life all go hand in hand. I truly believe his best work on the court lies ahead.”
This signing marks the third addition to the MSU-Northern Lights basketball team for the upcoming season. The team is aiming to build upon their 11-18 record from the previous year and will welcome back a host of returning players for the 2024-25 season.
The addition of Cinque Maxwell brings a wealth of talent and potential to the MSU-Northern basketball programme, and fans are undoubtedly eager to see him in action on the court. With a strong focus on both academics and athletics, Maxwell’s holistic approach to his college experience is sure to make a positive impact on and off the court, setting a commendable example for student-athletes everywhere.
