Setback for Timberwolves Coach Chris Finch After On-Court Collision

Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch sustained a torn patellar tendon in his right knee following a collision with player Mike Conley during the team’s playoff victory over the Phoenix Suns. The incident occurred in the fourth quarter, resulting in Finch needing assistance off the court and ultimately departing the arena on a cart.

The nature of Finch’s injury was confirmed by the Timberwolves as a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee. The collision took place as Conley attempted to dribble down the sideline and collided with Suns star Devin Booker, inadvertently running into Finch. Despite Conley’s efforts to soften the impact, Finch immediately experienced pain and grasped his right knee.

The coach was attended to for a few minutes by Minnesota players, coaches, and staff before being escorted off the court. Despite this setback, the Timberwolves achieved a victory over the Phoenix Suns with a score of 122-116, marking their first time advancing to the second round since 2004.

Assistant coach Micah Nori assumed control of the team for the final 1:41 of the game. Nori provided an update on Finch’s condition, stating that he was undergoing a medical evaluation and that the team had visited him after the game, noting that Finch was in good spirits.

Following the incident, Conley expressed his concern for Finch’s well-being and jokingly remarked that the coach should not have been standing so late in the game. Despite the light-hearted comment, Conley extended his best wishes for the coach’s recovery.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and NBA fans alike are optimistic for Finch’s prompt recovery as the playoffs continue to unfold.
