The ATP Finals have done it again! The winner of the season-ending tournament could be laughing all the way to the bank with the biggest prize money in tennis history. Last year, Novak Djokovic took home a record $4,740,300 for his undefeated title run in Turin. But this year, the stakes have been raised even higher. The winner of the 2023 ATP Finals will receive a whopping $4,801,500, provided they don’t lose any matches during the round-robin stage. That’s a handsome increase of $61,200 from last year’s prize. And it’s not just the winner who will be cashing in. The total prize pot for the tournament has also increased to $15 million, compared to $14.75 million last year.
But let’s break it down even further. If the winner finishes the tournament with four wins – two in the group phase and two in the knockout phase – they will take home $4,411,500. The runner-up, on the other hand, could earn as much as $2,600,500, depending on the number of matches they win. Even those who don’t make it to the final could still walk away with a hefty sum. Players who exit before the final could earn up to $1,495,500 for their efforts throughout the week.
It’s no wonder that the ATP Finals is attracting some of the biggest names in tennis. Last year, Djokovic defeated Casper Ruud in straight sets to claim his sixth season-ending title, tying with Roger Federer. And this year, defending champion Djokovic, along with two-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Jannik Sinner, have all secured their spots in the tournament.
But the race for the final four places is heating up. Casper Ruud currently holds the top spot, with a 1,890-point lead over Taylor Fritz, who is just outside the top eight. The chasing pack, including Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, and Holger Rune, will be battling it out at the Vienna Open and the Swiss Indoors Basel for a chance to secure their spots.
So mark your calendars for November 13 to 20, when the 2023 ATP Finals will take place at Pala Alpitour in Italy. It’s going to be an exciting tournament with record-breaking prize money on the line. Who will walk away with the biggest payday in tennis history? Only time will tell!
