The Turkish national underwater hockey team is currently in the process of preparing to defend their title at the forthcoming World Championships in Malaysia. Having secured the championship three times consecutively, the team is fervently aiming to extend their winning streak to four during the event set to take place from July 14 to 27.
Following the conclusion of the 24th and 17th Underwater Hockey Turkey Championships at the Atatürk Swimming Pools Complex in the Seyhan district, the preliminary squad for the national team will assemble for a training camp in Adana. This camp holds significant importance for the 45 athletes, encompassing both male and female players, who will be vying for positions on the final squad in the 19 and 24 age categories.
The chosen team will be representing Turkey at the Youth World Championships in Malaysia, which marks the first occurrence of the event since the onset of the pandemic and the initial one in a span of five years. With victories in Spain, Australia, and England in their repertoire, the Turkish 24-and-under Underwater Hockey national team is resolute in securing another triumph in Malaysia.
Kadir Kırlıoğlu, the technical committee chair of the Turkish Underwater Sports Federation and national team coach, has expressed his unwavering confidence in the team’s aptitude. He has underscored the fact that the team currently holds the title of world champion in the under-24 category and has clinched victory in three consecutive world championships. The upcoming training camp in Adana will serve as the commencement of the preparations for the national team.
Notably, this year will witness the participation of the under-19 national team in the Youth World Championships for the first time. Kırlıoğlu has emphasized the team’s resolve to secure a fourth consecutive victory, highlighting their prior accomplishments and the potential for further triumphs with the inclusion of the under-19 national team.
Moreover, in addition to the youth teams, Kırlıoğlu has also commended the triumph of the Elite national team, which has triumphed as the European champions four times. He has highlighted the team’s previous achievements in the World Championships, including securing third and second place in recent years, thereby showcasing Turkey’s success in the senior category.
