Outstanding Performances Lead to Final Big 12 Golf Awards for ISU’s Durisic and TCU’s Frimodt

In the concluding month of the 2023-24 season, Liyana Durisic of Iowa State and Gustav Frimodt of TCU were announced as the final Big 12 Men’s and Women’s Golfer of the Month. This recognition was bestowed upon them following their exceptional performances at the Big 12 Golf Championship in April.

Durisic played a pivotal role in aiding the Cyclones in securing a commendable second-place finish at the Big 12 Women’s Championship. Furthermore, she made history by recording a season-low 207 to secure the Big 12 individual title alongside her teammate Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn. This feat was particularly extraordinary as it marked the first instance in Big 12 history that the top finishers belonged to the same team. Throughout the month, Durisic maintained an impressive 70.33 stroke average and completed five out of six rounds at par or better. Her outstanding performance at the Chevron Silverado Showdown, where she finished in fifth place, further highlighted her exceptional skill. Durisic’s exemplary display of talent and sportsmanship has earned her the distinction of being the first Cyclone to receive this honour in the season and the second in the past two seasons.

On the men’s side, Frimodt’s exceptional performance at the Big 12 Championship earned him co-medalist honours. Despite being tied for 12th place after the initial 36 holes, he made a remarkable surge up the leaderboard with a stunning 6-under 66 performance in the third round. He then followed it up with another impressive under par round (68, -4) to claim a share of the Big 12 title. Frimodt’s achievement also holds historic significance for TCU, as he is the first Horned Frog to receive the monthly honour since the 2018-19 season. His outstanding performance and ascent up the leaderboard showcased his skill and determination on the golf course.

The achievements of both Durisic and Frimodt serve as a testament to their dedication and hard work. These accolades not only acknowledge their individual talent but also reflect positively on their respective universities. Their performances have undoubtedly made a lasting impression and have set a high standard for future golfers within the Big 12 Conference.

As the 2023-24 golf season draws to a close, the acknowledgement of exceptional student-athletes such as Durisic and Frimodt serves as a fitting conclusion. Their performances have not only brought them individual recognition but have also contributed to the vibrant and competitive golf culture within the Big 12 Conference. Congratulations to both Durisic and Frimodt on their well-deserved recognition for their remarkable achievements on the golf course.
