No More Match-Play in Scottish Boys’ and Girls’ Championships

Scottish Golf has defended the new format for the Scottish Boys’ and Girls’ Championships, which will no longer include a match-play phase. Instead, players will compete in stroke-play over 54 holes. The change was made to provide more flexibility in scheduling and to avoid clashes with The Open. Scottish Golf aims to make the event more appealing and accessible by reducing accommodation costs and guaranteeing three rounds of golf for all competitors. The combined event will involve 156 players, with separate titles for boys and girls. The format change follows previous adjustments in 2017, when the Scottish Boys’ Championship moved to a summer slot and introduced stroke-play qualifying. The new format aligns with the majority of professional golf events, which are stroke-play. Past winners of the Scottish Boys’ Championship include Andrew Coltart, David Law, Grant Forrest, and Ewen Ferguson, while Catriona Matthew and Hannah Darling are former Scottish Girls’ champions.
