Gropers Junior Rugby Club Kicks Off Season with a Bang

The Margaret River Gropers Junior Rugby Club opened the new season with a strong showing, competing against teams from Busselton, Bunbury, and Australind at Gloucester Park. Despite challenging weather conditions, the club emerged victorious in three out of four games across various age groups, demonstrating their prowess against the formidable Busselton Beetles.

Craig Jenkins, co-coach of the U12 team, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, emphasizing the narrow margins by which the games were decided. The club is indeed off to an auspicious start, with Jenkins particularly pleased to see an increasing number of girls participating in the sport. He commended the girls for their fearlessness on the field and the positive impact of rugby on their confidence and personal development.

The club’s success has been further augmented by the support of new sponsors Retravision and Yahava Koffeeworks, in addition to the continued backing of Leeuwin Tyres. The players proudly debuted a new playing jumper in their inaugural games of the season, marking a significant year for the club.

Looking forward, Craig noted the impressive track record of the Under 10s and Under 12s from the previous season, both of whom have secured victories in their opening games. However, he acknowledged that the battles with other clubs this season are not going to be easy. The club is gearing up for an exciting season, filled with stiff competition and thrilling matches on the horizon.

For those interested in joining the club, comprehensive information can be found on Facebook, or individuals are welcome to attend training sessions held every Wednesday at 4:30 pm near the BMX track.
