Get in the Know: Safeguarding in Tennis Awareness Week

Hey there tennis enthusiasts! Are you interested in learning more about safeguarding adults and children in the world of tennis? Well, you’re in luck because the Safeguarding in Tennis Awareness Week is just around the corner! Whether you’re a coach, official, welfare officer, or just someone who wants to know more about this important aspect of the sport, there’s something for everyone.

During the week of 2-7 October, you can join online workshops for free and gain valuable insights on how to improve safeguarding at your tennis venue. Some workshops are already fully booked, but don’t worry, extra sessions have been added to accommodate everyone.

Here are some of the exciting topics that will be covered in the workshops:

– A safeguarding case study: Ever wondered what happens when a report is made to the LTA? This workshop will give you a behind-the-scenes look.

– Meet the LTA’s Young Person’s Welfare Ambassadors: Get a unique perspective on safeguarding from young people aged 12-24.

– Explore venue support visits: Find out how these visits work and how they can benefit your tennis venue.

– Learn how to write risk assessments: A crucial skill for anyone involved in tennis.

These workshops are designed to be interactive, so you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and receive practical tips that you can apply in real life. And if you can’t attend a session live, don’t worry! Recordings will be available for you to watch at your convenience.

But that’s not all! The Safeguarding in Tennis Awareness Week coincides with the NSPCC’s CPSU Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport Week 2023. This year, the focus is on how parents can get involved in their child’s sport and help keep them safe. The NSPCC has even released a video about their campaign to support parents.

If you want to learn more about safeguarding in tennis or report a concern, be sure to visit the Safe to Play Tennis site. It’s packed with tips and information for players, parents, coaches, and venues.

So mark your calendars and get ready for a week of learning and raising awareness about safeguarding in tennis. Together, we can create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone involved in the sport we love!
