Thailand Prepares for Inaugural Police Martial Arts Tournament

Thailand is preparing to make history by hosting its first-ever mixed martial arts competition exclusively for police officers. Known as Cops Combat, the event is set to take place on May 28 at the esteemed Rajadamnern Stadium, aiming to showcase the physical strength and combat abilities of law enforcement personnel in the country.

The competition, open to both male and female officers, will be divided into seven weight categories for men, ranging from 56 kilograms to over 94 kilograms, and for women, from 45 kilograms to 70 kilograms. The event’s slogan, “In the ring, there is no rank, only heart and body,” emphasizes the inclusive nature of the contest.

Law enforcement officers interested in participating must register through their respective bureaus and divisions. Those selected will represent their units, fostering a sense of pride and camaraderie within the police force. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be live-streamed on the Cops Combat Facebook page, ensuring a wide audience can witness the spectacle.

Police Lieutenant General Jirabhop Bhuridej, the commander of the Central Investigation Bureau and the head of the organizing committee, has highlighted the importance of adhering to international standards and prioritizing the safety of all competitors. Detailed plans for the event were discussed during a recent meeting chaired by Jirabhop at the Muay Thai boxing stadium, with representatives from the public and private sectors in attendance.

The addition of Cops Combat to the 2024 Police Games demonstrates the Royal Thai Police’s commitment to enhancing officers’ self-defence skills and promoting physical fitness, which are crucial for their demanding duties.

Competitors will be required to wear the latest patrol police uniforms and complete protective gear, including head guards with clear visors, shin guards, dental mouth guards, and groin guards. Each match will have a duration of three minutes, and victories can be achieved through knockout, submission, judges’ decision, or disqualification.

Cops Combat promises to be an unprecedented fusion of athleticism and professional readiness, establishing itself as a pivotal event in the realm of police training and martial arts.
