Somer Valley Tennis Club: Celebrating Success and Fun on the Court

Hey there tennis enthusiasts! Are you ready to hear about the amazing day of tennis at Somer Valley Tennis Club? Well, get ready because it was a blast! The club recently held its Championship finals, and let me tell you, it was a day to remember. The indoor courts at Writhlington Sports Centre were buzzing with excitement as the finalists and club members gathered to watch the thrilling matches.

I have to give a shoutout to Patrick Lodge, who organized numerous events in September. This year, we had a record number of club members participating, which just goes to show how popular the tennis club has become in the Somer Valley area. Kudos to Patrick and all the amazing volunteers who made this day possible!

Now, let’s talk about the winners. Despite the challenges of the past year, our champions returned with a vengeance. The junior final events took place alongside the adults, making it a jam-packed day of tennis action. I want to congratulate Oswin Bakker for winning the U16 singles, Karin Dolak (age 11) for her victory in the U14 singles, and Christian Lilleyfoot and Oswin Bakker for their impressive performance in the U16 doubles. These young players truly shined on the court!

But the fun didn’t stop there. We also had some off-court awards to celebrate. Bernard Pendle club member Darren Thompson received a well-deserved recognition, and Neil Scott was honored as the Stonier Hobbs volunteer of the year. Oliver Aldred was awarded the junior prize, and Finn Bradley took home the Mini of the Year title. Congratulations to all the winners!

We would like to express our gratitude to our sponsors, Scott Construction, Biznus Payroll, and the Hunt Family. Your support is invaluable and greatly appreciated.

James Brocksopp, the Tournament Organiser, couldn’t contain his excitement. He said, ‘What a fantastic day it was! The Club truly showcased its best. The matches were of a very high standard, and I want to congratulate all the members who participated. A special thanks to Oli Bell, a volunteer member who captured some amazing shots throughout the day. If you’re interested, check out our Facebook page to see these incredible photos.’
