Tiger Woods and John Daly Eyed for Potential Cameo in ‘Happy Gilmore II’

Adam Sandler has disclosed his consideration of inviting golf legends Tiger Woods and John Daly to make cameo appearances in the speculated sequel to the iconic golf movie ‘Happy Gilmore’.

In a recent interview on the Dan Patrick Show, Sandler revealed his enthusiasm about potentially including Woods in the film, stating, “I would love it. We’ll see,” as he discussed the potential collaboration with the 15-time major winner. Sandler also hinted at the idea of incorporating Daly into the movie, drawing inspiration from the 58-year-old’s unique antics on the golf course.

Tim Herlihy, who has previously collaborated with Sandler on various projects, expressed his interest in including the two-time major winner Daly in ‘Happy Gilmore II’ during a conversation with him at the PGA Championship. Sandler expressed his admiration for Daly, stating, “I would like to think so. I love him. I’ve always loved him.”

If the project comes to fruition, it would not mark the first time Sandler has worked with sports stars. In 2022, he shared the screen with Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards in the Netflix movie ‘Hustle’. Sandler praised Edwards for his carefree and competitive demeanor.

Despite the excitement surrounding the potential sequel, Sandler emphasized that there is still much work to be done on the plot and script. Speculation about a ‘Happy Gilmore’ reboot began earlier this year, following comments from Christopher McDonald, who portrayed the antagonist opposite Sandler in the original movie. McDonald disclosed that he had seen an initial draft of the sequel’s script during a recent radio interview.

The original ‘Happy Gilmore’ film, released in 1996, follows the story of disgruntled hockey player Happy as he discovers a passion for golf. In a bid to save his grandmother’s home from foreclosure, he enters a tournament and emerges victorious, narrowly defeating McDonald’s character, ‘Shooter McGavin’.

In the interview, Sandler confirmed that he would reprise his role as Happy in the anticipated sequel, which would explore the golfer’s challenges in competing with younger players as he gets older.

Excitement surrounding the potential sequel has generated significant buzz, but fans will have to wait for further developments as the project continues to take shape. If Sandler’s vision comes to fruition, a star-studded sequel with golf icons Woods and Daly making appearances would undoubtedly be a treat for fans of the original film.
