Recently, the Louisville Metro Police have released two videos of an alleged incident involving professional golfer Scottie Scheffler and Detective Bryan Gillis. This action follows a press conference with Louisville mayor Craig Greenberg and Louisville Metro Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel. It was disclosed that Gillis failed to activate his body camera during the encounter with Scheffler, which is in violation of LMPD policy.
The first video, obtained from a police car dash cam, depicts Scheffler walking with two officers in handcuffs, and later walking in front of the police car with an officer. The second video, captured from a street pole camera near Valhalla Golf Club, seems to show Gillis running towards Scheffler’s car.
Scheffler has been charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from a directing officer. According to reports, Scheffler allegedly drove past a police officer against the officer’s instructions while attempting to enter the club. However, Scheffler has characterized the incident as a misunderstanding, while his legal representative, Steve Romines, has challenged the nature of the incident.
Scheffler’s arraignment, originally scheduled for Tuesday, has been postponed to June 3. Romines has stated that Scheffler will plead not guilty, emphasizing their lack of interest in reaching a settlement and their intention to either seek dismissal of the case or proceed to trial.
This incident has undoubtedly ignited controversy and debate, with conflicting accounts from both parties involved. It has evolved into a legal dispute, and only time will reveal the unfolding of this case.
