The NCAA Men’s Division I golf championships commenced with great fervor as two freshmen from Notre Dame, Jacob Modleski and Rocco Salvitti, led the Fighting Irish to a total score of eight-over 296 in the inaugural round at the Omni La Costa North Course in Carlsbad, California. Modleski, hailing from Noblesville and Guerin Catholic, concluded his round with an impressive even-par 72, including three birdies. Salvitti, representing Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and Pittsburgh Central Catholic, posted a respectable score of 73 despite a double-bogey and a bogey.

Senior player Angelo Marcon from San Francisco and Sacred Heart Cathedral also displayed commendable effort, carding a two-over 75. Meanwhile, team captain Palmer Jackson, a graduate player from Murrysville, Pennsylvania, encountered challenges, concluding with a five-over 77.
