The future of Ryan Kent at Fenerbahce appears to be in doubt, as reports from Turkey suggest that he may be on the verge of leaving the club after just one season.
Kent joined the Turkish Super Lig side on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Rangers last summer. However, his transition has not been as smooth as anticipated. The 27-year-old has struggled to secure consistent playing time, with his most recent appearance amounting to just five minutes on the field after falling out of favor with manager Ismail Kartal.
In addition, changes to Super Lig regulations for the upcoming season mean that clubs will only be permitted to register 12 foreign players, down from the current 15. As a result, Kent is expected to be one of the individuals to be left out of the squad in order to comply with the new rule, having already been unregistered towards the end of the previous campaign.
While Kent initially showed promise by scoring once and providing two assists in early European ties, he failed to replicate that level of performance in domestic competitions, ultimately leading to his sidelining. Despite speculation about a potential move to Lazio earlier in the year, Kent reportedly declined the offer, and there were also rumors of a return to Ibrox.
Addressing the decision to omit Kent from the squad, Kartal explained, “We had 15 people, and 1 person was going to leave the squad. Kent had received serious offers from Europe, including Lazio. We wanted to keep (Joshua) King in the squad. Kent said, ‘I don’t want to go.’ That’s how we made our choice. I always prefer a solid King. If King is healthy, he will get you a game on his own. It was unfortunate that he got injured 4 days after announcing the list.”
The future of Kent remains uncertain, and it is evident that he is at a crossroads in his career. As speculation surrounding his future continues to mount, the winger will undoubtedly be weighing his options and considering how to navigate this challenging period.
