West Ham Board Begins Search for New Manager as David Moyes’ Future Hangs in the Balance

The West Ham board is reportedly starting to look for potential replacements for manager David Moyes, according to sources. It is believed that a decision on Moyes’ future will be made later in the season, as his contract is set to expire in June 2024. Both the club and the manager are not in a hurry to discuss a potential extension, following a lukewarm start to the new season. This news comes after speculation about Moyes’ future during the off-season, despite his success in leading West Ham to a historic Europa Conference League triumph.

The performance of the team and the results will play a significant role in determining whether Moyes will be offered a new contract. Currently, West Ham sits in ninth place in the Premier League table after a comprehensive 4-1 defeat against Aston Villa. Tension between Moyes and director of football Tim Steidten could also impact the decision. There were reports of disagreements between the two during the summer transfer window regarding the direction of West Ham’s transfer business.

Despite spending £120 million on new signings in the summer, some players have yet to make a significant impact in England. Midfielders Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse have settled in well, but defender Konstantinos Mavropanos and forward Mohamed Kudus are still finding their feet.

Moyes has been with West Ham since his return for a second spell in December 2019. He achieved sixth and seventh-place finishes with the team in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns. In other news, West Ham is reportedly interested in signing a defender who impressed in a match against Brazil.
