Newport Rugby Club is making preparations for the upcoming season by announcing the appointment of key players to leadership roles on the field. Ricky Bailey has been designated as the club captain, with Jordan Grass assuming the position of vice-captain at the Old Showground.
Bailey, who has progressed through the club’s junior ranks and had a rugby league career with St Helens, has signed a three-year contract following his return to Newport from Bridgnorth. Director of rugby Steve Dolphin expressed his enthusiasm for these appointments, emphasizing his confidence in Bailey and Grass to effectively fulfill their roles in the upcoming season, during which the team will compete in Regional One North West.
Dolphin stated, “Ricky was unequivocal about his desire to play rugby here and is eager to take on the challenge of building a squad. Both players have emerged from the club’s youth teams, and this is a testament to our commitment to seeing local players represent the club.”
In addition to the leadership appointments, the club has also secured commitments from Will Galbrath, Charlie Gamble, Fin Barnes, and Rhys Morgan for the upcoming season. Furthermore, Dolphin revealed that the team is in the process of recruiting new players and is close to finalizing coaching appointments.
“We are in talks with several players who are considering joining us, so we expect to welcome fresh talent. Additionally, in the coming days, we should have a head coach, who will also be responsible for coaching the forwards, and a backs coach in place. The discussions have been very positive, and we are optimistic about reaching final decisions soon,” Dolphin confirmed.
