Star midfielder Paul Pogba is currently facing an ambiguous future as he and Juventus are on the brink of terminating their contract after June 30. With a looming four-year doping ban, the footballer may be left with no choice but to entertain the idea of retirement.
Upon joining Juventus as a free agent from Manchester United in 2012, Pogba subsequently made a return to Old Trafford in 2016 following a stint with the Italian club, in a record-breaking €105m transfer. However, his time on the pitch last season was marred by a series of injuries. Furthermore, after just two games in the current campaign, he was found to have failed a random Serie A doping test.
While he intends to appeal the lengthy ban, Juventus has decided to proceed with terminating his contract after June 30. It should be noted that this decision was only made after the player’s salary was no longer being covered by the Growth Decree tax incentives.
Under the terms of his contract, Pogba was earning a substantial €8m per season, with an additional €2m in bonuses, with an agreement set to extend until June 2026. Despite continuing to train with Juventus, the impending contract termination may compel the 31-year-old to consider the possibility of retirement.
As Pogba’s future remains uncertain, the footballing world eagerly awaits further developments on this matter.
