Edinburgh University Women Making Waves at EuroHockey Club Trophy 11 in Turkey

The women’s hockey team from the University of Edinburgh is poised to participate in the EuroHockey Club Trophy 11 tournament in Turkey this weekend, with the ambition of securing promotion. This will be the team’s sixth European competition, and Coach Sam Judge is optimistic about their prospects.

Highlighting the team’s successful track record in Europe, with four previous promotions, Coach Sam Judge stated their aim to add to that tally this time around. The team is prepared to compete in a pool round, facing Swansea on Friday, followed by a match against Czech side Rakovnik on the next day, and concluding with a game against Ireland’s UCD on Sunday. Emergence victorious in these matches will position the team for a spot in Monday’s final, where they will have the opportunity to secure promotion against the top team from the other pool.

However, the team is currently facing some challenges, with a few players sidelined due to injuries and other commitments such as exams and work. Despite this, Coach Sam mentioned the strength of the squad, presenting a great opportunity for the players.

Although the team narrowly missed out on European qualification for the upcoming season, Coach Sam remains confident in the team’s capabilities, highlighting their depth and goal-scoring proficiency, with the team accruing an impressive 86 goals in 16 Premiership games. The task now is to replicate this success on the European stage.

In related news, the Scotland women’s squad has been announced for their forthcoming match against France, and Edinburgh HC, and Hillhead recently secured U14 Cup victories. Additionally, the Scotland women’s team had a successful run against Canada, remaining undefeated in the series, and the Scotland U21 Women secured a win over Ireland.

As the Edinburgh University Women’s hockey team prepares for the EuroHockey Club Trophy tournament, they are focused on achieving another milestone in their noteworthy European journey. With a determined and proficient squad, the team is poised to showcase their prowess on the international stage.
