Renovation Project Set to Kick Off at On-X Linwood Hockey Pitch

The On-X Linwood is preparing for a significant project to upgrade its hockey pitch. The renovation work is scheduled to begin next month following the approval of the contract.

The finance resources and policy board of Renfrewshire Council has approved the deal to enhance the existing surface at the sports centre, allowing Allsports Construction and Maintenance to undertake the project. Valued at over £545,000, the project is expected to rejuvenate the facility.

During the meeting, Councillor Alison-Ann Dowling, Labour representative for Houston, Crosslee, and Linwood, expressed her support for the contract, highlighting the positive impact it would have on the area’s sports facilities. She stated, “I am pleased to support this contract for the refurbishment of the hockey pitch at Linwood On-X. It will significantly improve the external sports facilities in the area.”

The upgrade is anticipated to benefit local teams such as Paisley’s Kelburne Hockey Club (KHC) and further promote sport development in Renfrewshire. The current pitch is limited to lower-level hockey leagues, prompting KHC to relocate their senior team matches to Glasgow Green. The council aims to attract KHC back to Renfrewshire by providing a pitch that meets Federation for International Hockey (FIH) standards.

Councillor Ann-Dowling, who also serves as the Labour group’s finance spokesperson, emphasized the importance of bringing KHC, the only club with a children’s development section, back to the area. She commented, “I particularly welcome the stated aim that the upgraded pitch is hopefully going to attract back Kelburne Hockey Club, which is the only club with a children’s development section. I wish that aim well and hope to see that facility being well-used.”

The renovation works are scheduled to begin on July 15 and are expected to be completed by October 4. However, the exact timeline will be confirmed in the council’s letter of acceptance.

The commitment of Renfrewshire Council to enhancing sports facilities for the benefit of the community is admirable. The upgraded hockey pitch at On-X Linwood is expected to bring positive changes, not only for the local teams but also for aspiring young talents in the area.
