UEFA has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the Serbian Football Association in response to their recent match with England, which resulted in a 1-0 loss. The disciplinary action has been taken in accordance with Article 55 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, as stated in an official announcement released on Monday.
The charges against the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) include the throwing of objects and the transmission of a provocative message inconsistent with the spirit of a sporting event. The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) will be responsible for adjudicating on this matter, and a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector will conduct an investigation into alleged discriminatory behaviour.
The decision to pursue disciplinary action stems from violent clashes between Serbian and English fans in Germany, during which bottles, chairs, and tables were thrown during a confrontation outside a bar in Gelsenkirchen. Seven individuals were taken into custody by German police, and there was a report of grievous bodily harm, although the details of the incident remain unclear.
England emerged victorious in the match, with Jude Bellingham’s early header securing their win. Serbia will have the opportunity to make a comeback in their upcoming matches against Slovenia and Denmark.
In a separate announcement, UEFA has disclosed that Scotland’s Ryan Porteous has been handed a two-game ban following his red card in the match against Germany. The defender was sent off after a challenge on Ilkay Gundogan, resulting in a penalty for the opposition.
Furthermore, the Scottish Football Association has been fined €5,625 for the throwing of objects during their 5-1 defeat to Germany, and the team will be aiming for their first victory in the tournament in their upcoming matches against Switzerland and Hungary.
