St. Olaf College Hockey Players Shine as Krampade All-American Scholars

A total of 18 exceptional members of the St. Olaf College men’s and women’s hockey teams have been recognized as Krampade All-American Scholars by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA). This prestigious distinction was announced on Monday, celebrating the remarkable academic and athletic accomplishments of these student-athletes.

The men’s program, under the leadership of head coach Eddie Effinger, proudly boasts a program-record 13 honorees, while head coach Tracy Johnson’s women’s program lays claim to five outstanding student-athletes on the list. They are among the 945 NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III student-athletes to be honored in the eighth-annual listing of the Krampade All-American Scholars.

To achieve such a prestigious title, student-athletes must have maintained a grade-point average of at least 3.75 in each semester, as well as have appeared in 40 percent of their team’s games. The only exceptions were granted to injured players and backup goaltenders. Additionally, schools had to be members of the AHCA in order to qualify for this recognition.

Several student-athletes have achieved consecutive Krampade All-American Scholar accolades, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to academic excellence. Recent graduates Troy Bowditch and Lukas Haugen, along with rising seniors Connor Kalthoff, Matthew Pointer, and Grace Lankas, all earned their third consecutive Krampade All-American Scholar accolade.

Similarly, recent graduate Parker Casey, and Kaz Matsuo, along with rising seniors Jonathan Young and Mandy Moran, were honored for the second season in a row. Notably, Kalthoff was one of 13 student-athletes on the Krampade All-American Scholar lists who was also voted as a CCM/AHCA All-American this season.

Since the 2017-18 season, St. Olaf’s men’s program has celebrated 47 Krampade All-American Scholars, while the women’s program has produced 29 of their own.

The outstanding St. Olaf’s Men’s and Women’s 2023-24 AHCA All-American Scholars are truly deserving of recognition for their dedication to both academics and athletics, and they serve as excellent ambassadors of their institution.
