The annual Inter-Primary Tennis Championship held at Helensburgh Lawn Tennis Club recently showcased the talents of young tennis enthusiasts in Helensburgh and Lomond. Students from various schools in the area came together for a day of competitive tennis, following the format of the esteemed Davis Cup, featuring singles and doubles matches across three age categories: P1-3, P4-5, and P6-7. Close to 100 children participated, representing their respective schools and demonstrating their dedication to the sport.

Rhu Primary School emerged victorious in the P1-3 category, with St Joseph’s earning the runner-up position. In the P4-5 category, Cardross claimed the title, closely followed by Arrochar. The P6-7 matches concluded with another triumph for Rhu Primary School, as St Joseph’s secured the runner-up position once again. Notably, Cole Madonia was recognized as the best overall player for his exceptional skills and sportsmanship throughout the event.

Alan MacBeath, the event organizer, expressed his delight at the successful turnout and high level of participation, emphasizing the importance of providing children with opportunities to represent their schools and interact with other schools. The championship served as a prelude to the upcoming activities at Helensburgh Lawn Tennis Club during Wimbledon from July 1-14, which will include events and activities to further promote tennis within the community.

According to Mr. MacBeath, the club is dedicated to nurturing young talent and fostering community spirit through sports, as evidenced by the successful championship event, which ensured a memorable day for all involved.
