Seven CIF Southern Section Boys Basketball Teams Eye Section 7 Championship in Arizona Finals

Seven CIF-SS boys basketball teams are on the cusp of securing the Section 7 championship at State Farm Stadium in Arizona. St. Pius, Crespi, Anaheim Canyon, St. Anthony, Campbell Hall, Rolling Hills Prep, and St. Bernard have all progressed to their respective bracket finals after achieving a 3-0 record, including two wins on Saturday.

St. Pius is scheduled to compete in the CoCo5 bracket final against Nevada Mojave, following triumphs over St. Francis and Sierra Vista. Douglas Langford has played a pivotal role in guiding the team to the final, delivering impressive performances in both games. The addition of Kaleb Kearse has also had a considerable impact on the team’s success.

Meanwhile, Crespi has demonstrated its prowess in Section 7 despite the absence of their leading scorer Joe Sterling. Peyton White, Isaiah and Carter Barnes, Nickon Daei, and Preston Cole have all risen to the occasion to maintain the team’s competitiveness. The Celts will confront Anaheim Canyon in the bracket final, with their sights set on claiming the championship.

St. Anthony will go head-to-head with Clovis North in the AZ Family Bracket final, with standout contributions from Jojo Wicker, Jayshawn Kibble, and Aman Hayes. Campbell Hall, under the leadership of Isaiah Johnson, will face Rolling Hills Prep in the Willmeng Construction Bracket final, while St. Bernard will compete against Clovis West in the AZ Athletics Bracket final.

The tournament has also witnessed impressive individual performances, with Thousand Oaks’ Trent MacLean leading in rebounds, Calvary Chapel’s Kaiden Bailey and Dana Hills’ Collin Haugh showcasing their scoring prowess, and Roosevelt’s Brayden Burries and Temecula Valley’s Jeremiah Profit making significant contributions. Mater Dei’s Brannon Martinsen has also emerged as a standout player, averaging nearly 20 points and 10 rebounds per game.
