Wayne Rooney’s Expensive Mishap: Son Drives £3,000 Golf Kart into Lake

Former Birmingham City chief Wayne Rooney recently recounted a costly mishap involving one of his children and a £3,000 golf cart that unexpectedly found itself submerged in the lake on their family estate. The opulent six-bedroom residence, which Rooney relocated to in December 2021, encompasses two man-made fishing lakes within its extensive 40-acre grounds. Rooney, who had the lakes constructed, also provided his family with a golf cart for navigating the expansive property. However, during a discussion with Gary Neville on The Overlap, he disclosed that one of his children was responsible for the vehicle ending up in the water.

In the interview, when queried by Neville about whether he swims in the lake, Rooney shared a cautionary anecdote about the regrettable incident involving the golf cart. The incident happened on the day Rooney had to depart for the United States to commence his managerial duties. He elaborated on the aquatic ordeal, noting that one of his children succeeded in steering the golf cart straight into the lake, as detailed by the Mirror.

Before his brief stint as Birmingham City’s manager, Rooney helmed the MLS team D.C. United in 2022. Following his time in the United States, he took the reins at Birmingham City but was ousted after a mere 83 days, contributing to the club’s relegation to League One. However, despite this setback, Rooney is eagerly anticipating his upcoming managerial challenge as he assumes his fourth managerial post with Plymouth Argyle.

Expressing his enthusiasm about joining Plymouth Argyle, Rooney remarked, “Taking on this role at Plymouth Argyle feels like the ideal progression in my career, and I am grateful to the chairman and board for their confidence in me,” after his appointment was finalized last month. He also underscored his aspirations, stating, “This presents an opportunity to be part of an exciting project. I look forward to aiding in assembling a team of players to play expansive football and entertain the Green Army. I have personally witnessed the talent of the current group of players here and the remarkable atmosphere at Home Park.”

Rooney acknowledged the club’s vision, stating, “The club is on an exciting long-term journey, with a progressive plan in place. I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of it. I am eager for the Championship season to commence in August.” With his new role at Plymouth Argyle, Rooney is poised to embrace the challenge and lead the team to success.
