Former Montreal Canadiens captain Shea Weber has been officially inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024, a prestigious honour that was announced this week.
Weber’s exceptional and noteworthy career has earned him a spot alongside six other esteemed individuals in this year’s class, including builders Colin Campbell and David Poile, as well as players Natalie Darwitz, Pavel Datsyuk, Jeremy Roenick, and Krissy Wendell-Pohl.
Throughout his remarkable NHL career, Weber competed in a total of 1038 games, displaying his prowess by notching an impressive 224 goals and 365 assists. During his tenure with the Canadiens, he proved to be an invaluable asset, contributing 58 goals and 88 assists in the 275 games he played over the course of five seasons. In the high-pressure setting of 97 playoff games, he delivered 18 goals and 24 assists, demonstrating his unwavering skill and determination on the ice. One of Weber’s crowning achievements came when he led the Canadiens as their captain to the Stanley Cup final in 2021.
Weber’s legacy extends beyond the NHL, as he has also left an indelible mark on international hockey. Notably, he was a key player in Team Canada’s victories, helping clinch two Olympic gold medals, a World Junior championship, and a World Championship title.
While his playing days may be behind him, Shea Weber remains a prominent figure on the ice, currently serving as part of the Utah Hockey Club’s salary cap.
