The Southeast Missouri Women’s Basketball team has recently announced its latest signee for the 2024-25 season, with Head Coach Briley Palmer officially making the announcement on Friday. Originating from Grand Rapids, Mich., guard Lexi McCully is scheduled to join the inaugural class of the Palmer era, following stints at Mineral Area College (MAC) from 2021-2023 and a season at Georgia Southwestern.
McCully’s collegiate basketball journey began after her graduation from East Kentwood High School in 2021, where she initially played under Coach Palmer at MAC. Over the span of two seasons with MAC, she played in 32 games and attained prestigious all-American accolades. During this time, she showcased her skills on the court, amassing 573 points with an impressive average of 17.9 points per game, in addition to contributing 94 assists and 118 rebounds.
Transitioning to Georgia Southwestern for the 2023-24 season, McCully demonstrated her abilities in 32 games, including 17 Peach Belt Conference matchups. Notably, she played a pivotal role in the team’s successful journey to the Division II Elite Eight, showcasing her ability to excel at the highest levels of competition. Her exceptional three-point shooting, achieving a commendable 32.2% shooting percentage, and scoring a total of 266 points during her tenure with the Surge, was particularly noteworthy.
In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Lexi McCully has also received recognition for her academic achievements, being named to the All-Academic Team throughout her four years in high school. Furthermore, she earned All-Conference honors during her junior and senior years, underlining her overall excellence both on and off the court.
Looking towards the future, Lexi has set her sights on pursuing a major in communications at Southeast Missouri State University, illustrating her dedication to both her athletic and academic pursuits. Her recruitment represents a substantial addition to the women’s basketball team, and her multi-faceted talents are poised to significantly enhance the squad’s abilities. With her arrival, the team is certain to benefit from her exceptional skill set and unwavering dedication, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
