Volkswagen’s New Black Edition Cars: Are They Worth It?

The UK branch of Volkswagen has recently introduced its latest Black Edition versions of the Polo, Taigo, Golf, and T-Roc, and they have generated considerable attention. These exclusive models come equipped with a selection of sophisticated black features and are purported to offer excellent value for money.

Opting for the Polo or Taigo Black Edition entitles the buyer to a black styling pack, Matrix LED headlights, heated front seats, and either 17-inch (Polo) or 18-inch (Taigo) alloys. The supermini variant is solely available with a 1.0L TSI petrol engine generating 115 ps and is accompanied by a DSG gearbox. Conversely, the Taigo Black Edition also presents the 150 ps 1.5L TSI DSG powertrain, which is offered with either manual or automatic transmissions.

In comparison to the R-Line trim level, the Polo and Taigo Black Editions command an additional £500. As such, the VW Polo Black Edition commences at £24,815 and the Taigo Black Edition at £31,100. However, the supplementary features included with the Black Edition versions amount to a value of £2,765 and £2,675 respectively, thus Volkswagen asserts that these cars provide excellent value for money.

The Volkswagen Golf Black Edition likewise incorporates the same black styling package as the Polo and Taigo, encompassing a variety of black detailing and 18-inch wheels, Matrix LED headlights, Winter Pack and a wireless charging pad. The T-Roc Black Edition similarly showcases 18-inch alloys, a black styling pack, Matrix LED headlights and a wireless smartphone charging pad, along with heated front seats.

The T-Roc Black Edition encompasses the identical engine and configuration as the standard T-Roc R-Line, albeit with a £1,000 price hike. In light of this, the Volkswagen Golf Black Edition commences at £31,285 in the UK, and the T-Roc Black Edition commences at £35,405. The added features on the Golf Black Edition incur a cost of £3,185, while those on the T-Roc are valued at £3,875.

The Polo, Taigo, T-Roc, and Golf Black Editions will be available for order in the UK from July 4, 2024.
