Bryce Baringer, the New England Patriots’ punter, has recently earned a spot in the 2024 Massachusetts Amateur Golf Championship. When not clad in his football gear, Baringer can be found on the golf course teeing off. His achievement is the result of his win at the Massachusetts Amateur Qualifier earlier this year, securing his place in the championship scheduled for July 8.
For Baringer, this recent accomplishment has been a long time in the making. In an interview with Patriots.com, he shared, “I tried qualifying a few times back when I was at home living in Michigan and never made it through.” However, with the steadfast support of his family, friends, and teammates, he has finally secured his spot in the championship.
Golf holds a special place in Baringer’s heart, thanks to his father, Bruce, who introduced him to the sport at a young age. His love for both golf and football has grown in tandem over the years. Baringer expressed gratitude for his father’s encouragement, stating, “He was thrilled for me, and obviously it’s gratifying for us because I know how important golf is to him. Just to be able to make him proud, not just on the football field, but in a sport he so deeply cares about, was gratifying for me.”
Despite his deep love for golf, Baringer ultimately chose to pursue a career in football. He played at Michigan State before being drafted by the New England Patriots in 2023. Surprisingly, Baringer also claims that playing golf helps him prepare for the football season, sharing, “Golf is still important to me. I link golf to football and football to golf so much.”
The 2024 Massachusetts Amateur Golf Championship, which commenced on July 8, took place at the Framingham Country Club. Baringer’s participation is a testament to his dedication and passion for golf, as well as his commitment to excelling in both sports.
It is inspiring to see professional athletes pursuing their passions outside of their respective fields. Baringer’s story serves as a reminder that with dedication and support, one can achieve success in multiple areas of interest. We extend our best wishes to him in the upcoming championship and hope to see more athletes embracing their diverse passions in the future.
