The Washington Capitals Announce New General Manager

The Washington Capitals have formally announced the appointment of Chris Patrick as their new general manager on Monday, with longtime GM Brian MacLellan continuing in his role as the president of hockey operations. At 48 years old, Patrick, who was recently promoted to senior vice president, has been a part of the Capitals organization since 2009, previously serving as the assistant GM under MacLellan for the past three years. As the son of longtime team president Dick Patrick, Chris Patrick will now assume the responsibilities as the seventh GM in the organization’s 50-year history.

Owner Ted Leonsis has expressed full confidence in Patrick’s abilities, describing him as a dedicated and hard-working executive who is fully equipped to take on his new role. Meanwhile, MacLellan, who is 65 years old and has held the position of GM for a decade, will be transitioning to a different role within the organization following the successful construction of the team that secured the franchise’s first Stanley Cup title in 2018.

In other hockey news, former Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard led the Detroit Junior Red Wings to victory in the Brick Invitational Hockey Tournament at the West Edmonton Mall. Additionally, the Boston Bruins are optimistic that their latest signee, Nikita Zadorov, a 6-foot-6, 250-pound defenseman, will help lead them to a Stanley Cup victory.

Furthermore, the Utah Hockey Club has re-signed forward Barrett Hayton to a two-year contract worth $5.3 million, and the Carolina Hurricanes have announced Doug Warf as their new team president. Warf previously held the position of executive director of the Hurricanes Foundation and most recently served as the president of MDO Holdings, a Raleigh-based investment and management firm.
